Whether winning new business, building your personal brand or convincing investors to support your latest idea; influential presentation skills are crucial. But you don’t have to be a socially confident extrovert to leave your audience wanting more. These tips will help anyone to present with greater authority and confidence, and to deliver a compelling case that is memorable for all the right reasons.

Tip 1

Write for your audience

What are they interested in, what solves their problem, meets their need or achieves an aspiration for them? If you can show your audience how your presentation will make life easier or better for them or is just frankly fascinating, then you are more likely to persuade them to listen.

Tip 2

Use emotionally resonant language

Saying you are honest and reliable doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as saying you will never lie to them and never let them down. Emotionally resonant language appeals to people who make decisions based on their values and is simply more interesting to listen to. Emotionally resonant language includes words such as: love, breathtaking, fantastic, courage, honour, grace. These words affect us beyond their rational impact, but use them carefully – if you can’t say them with conviction, don’t.

Tip 3

Get HELP© with the content

To ensure your presentation appeals to all personality types, use our easy to remember mnemonic: HELP©. H is for hard facts, these appeal to all the linear logic types. E is for explore – explore the big picture and future possibilities to appeal to all the lateral thinkers. L is for logic – give your audience a logical reason to listen to you, what is your business case or rationale for your idea. Finally, P is for people – what are the human consequences of your idea, what are your values, what matters to you and how will it feel to do business with you. People will tune into what they need and ignore the rest, but you won’t leave your audience missing the part of the message most valuable to them.

Tip 4

People do judge books by their cover

And wine by the label, so dress and act the part. If you look the way people expect then you can focus on getting your point across, not spending time convincing them of your credibility – a chief executive in flip flops will always raise eyebrows. Dress for the reputation you want, with a little signature style to give a sense of who you are without distracting from your message. Also, remember the basics: rehearse your presentation, don’t walk in front of the light beam and know the transitions on your slides – you want to give the impression of sophisticated, effortless professionalism not bumbling amateur.

Tip 5

Think positively

Most people get nervous making presentations, particularly when the stakes are high. Try to focus on what you want to achieve: imagine yourself walking off the stage or out of the room having delivered a fantastic presentation. Imagine how amazing you will feel, how proud, the smile you will have on your face. Focusing on positive outcomes not avoiding negatives is key. Don’t tell yourself not to be nervous because being nervous is then all you are thinking about!

Friday 12th of april i will do another Expert session for @AppsforGood

I really love to be part of this great project!!

About

Apps for Good is an acclaimed education movement where young people in schools learn to create apps that can change their world. Apps for Good has grown significantly and now has nearly 100 schools delivering courses to more than 5,000 students aged 11 to 18.

CDI Apps for Good is supported by Dell Powering the Possible and works closely with technology entrepreneurs, designers, developers and tech industry partners, including BlackBerry, Nominet Trust, Thomson Reuters, Barclaycard, Omidyar Network, Nesta and Facebook.

History

During April- June 2010, CDI Apps for Good successfully ran the first pilot course with 9 unemployed young people aged 16-25 at High Trees Development Trust in South London.

In September 2010, an Apps for Good course for secondary schools launched at theCentral Foundation Girls School in Tower Hamlets, East London.

In September 2011 Apps for Good launched in more than 50 schools across England.

In September 2012 Apps for Good launched in almost 100 schools in England and Scotland.

Vision

Apps for Good aims to:

Ignite a passion for technology and social enterprise in young people in the UK

Encourage young people to use technology to tackle problems for social good

Increase the entrepreneurial skills and confidence of young people

Bridge the gap between young people and the business networks and knowledge that can help them

Build a connected world of young people, business volunteers and educators, inspiring each other to solve problems and succeed through the wonders of mobile technology

During the Apps for Good course, students go through a kind of entrepreneurial process whereby they identify what is wrong with their world before designing a way of fixing it with a mobile app. We combine a broad range of areas in the course, giving young people a foundation in entrepreneurship, community involvement, problem-solving and team work, as well as design and some technical skills. Learn more about the course

Apps for Good develops talented and employable young people in an industry with plenty of room for creativity, prosperity and employment.

What makes us different

We do not set agendas or themes but use radical bottom-up innovation processes to allow young people to come up with the issues they worry about in their lives and in theircommunities

The Apps for Good approach goes beyond simple, basic training, and no journey through Apps for Good is the same for any individual. Student ownership of both issue and solution is what makes a lasting difference

The course style and structure follows a peer-to-peer, problem-centred learning model inspired by the work of the influential Brazilian educator Paulo Freire. This learning model is at the heart of all CDI programmes across the network.

During a one hour Skype video call, you listen to the students pitching their app ideas, advise on their projects and respond to their questions.

This is the structure of a typical expert session:

1. Introductions (10 min): Expert explains professional background; teacher explains learning journey of student teams so far and shares profile of the teams and school

2. Pitches + Q&A (15 min – 60 min): Each student team pitches their app project/ prototype build; a Q&A session with the Expert follows

3. Final feedback (5 min) by Expert on issues that are common to all student teams

IMPORTANT: As an Apps for Good Expert your role is not to judge ideas in Dragons’ Den style, but to provide feedback. If you spot an idea that is immature or not well considered or researched, simply ask the student teams guiding questions to improve their idea. It’s a learning process for everyone involved. Please be fair, but constructive in your feedback – when you spot gaps, help the student teams to reflect on their work.

3. After we matched you with the school, you exchange your contact details and get in touch

4. Dial in and listen to the students pitching their apps and give feedback

5. Have fun!

I want to get involved but not sure if I have the right skills

We’re not exclusively looking for professionals from the mobile tech industry. The nature of the course welcomes people from all industries providing feedback and guidance for the a-z process of creating a new product and bringing it to market.

Watching television while also using a smartphone or tablet is one of the most popular leisure activities of the mobile era.

The mobile industry is working hard to create mobile apps and sites that relate to what’s on TV, in order to capitalize on this behavior.

This approach is often referred to as the “second screen,” the idea being that the tablet or smartphone becomes a TV companion device, allowing for added levels of interactivity— whether on social networks or dedicated second screen apps and sites that complement on-air content.

In a recent report from BI Intelligence, we examine how second screen apps, social networks, and mobile sites will ultimately succeed in drawing significant audiences, analyze how they will begin to see some advertising dollars, look at who second screen audiences are, explore the second screen opportunity from the broadcaster angle, and detail the opportunity represented by audience analytics and second screen commerce.
Here’s why the second screen industry will ultimately succeed:

Usage is growing rapidly: 85% of smartphone users reported second screen-linked behavior at least once a month, over 60% reported doing it on a weekly basis, and 39% did so daily. Over 80% of 18- to 24-year-olds told Pew they used their phone while watching TV, and 60% of Americans with annual incomes above $50,000 use their phones while watching TV.

And mass acceptance isn’t even necessary: All that matters is that a significant minority of viewers develop this habit (especially if they are highly engaged viewers). In the U.S. alone, TV ad spending was $18.4 billion in the third quarter of last year, a $74 billion annual run rate. If mobile can carve out even a small share of that pile of dollars via second screen channels, it would boost the mobile industry tremendously.

Second screen isn’t really a new activity: It’s a natural update to the old ways of engaging with TV, like the old office water cooler conversations about last night’s football game or popular TV drama. Moreover, second screen-type behaviors were already popular on desktops and laptops, before mobile came along and made it a lot easier to participate.

Second screen apps and sites are bridges: They bring together the powerful but increasingly fragmented world of television media, and the fast-growing but still undeveloped digital realm. For TV-centric advertisers and content producers, second screen provides a channel through which to test out digital strategies while still remaining tied to familiar territory.

Application structure

Navigation

Choose a navigation structure based on the most important features in your app and the type of content that the application provides. Give users quick access to the most frequent tasks and don’t overwhelm them with content or tasks that are less important. Determine which of the following approaches work the best for your app.

Tabs

Tabs allow you to structure content so that users can move easily between content of relatively equal importance.

Use when

You have distinct sections of content of relatively equal importance. Tabs are always fixed along the bottom of the screen in an action bar.

Examples

A clock might include tabs for a world clock, alarm, timer, and stopwatch.

A music app might include tabs for artists, albums, songs, and playlists.

A tab menu (sidebar) is a vertically stacked, scrollable list of tabs. You can use a tab menu to hold less frequently accessed tabs, or you can use it instead of tabs along the bottom of the screen. When users tap the button for the tab menu at the bottom of the screen, the tab menu slides in from the left and appears to the left of the main view.

Best practices

Place the most frequently used tab in the middle tab position. This is the easiest place for users to target.

Include tabs on the first level of an app hierarchy only.

When users tap a tab, display the content at the top of the screen. If users tap an item in a tab (for example, a list item), include a Back button so that users can navigate to the first level in the hierarchy. Don’t use Back to move between tabs.

Use up to four tabs in an action bar.Include additional tabs in a tab menu.

In a tab menu, place the most frequently used tabs at the top. Place any tabs in the first level of the hierarchy at the top of the list.

Drill-down

Drill downs let you structure content in a hierarchy and show selected parts of the content at each level.

Use when

Use drill-downs when you have lots of structured, hierarchical content.

A drill-down approach is common when you use lists for content. The list item shows a small amount of the content the item has. When users click the item, it opens and shows more information.

Example

A photo app might have vacation photos grouped into different trips. You couldn’t present all of the photos on the first level, so users would click an album to see that trip’s photos. At the second level, you might present the photos from that trip as thumbnails. Clicking one of the photos opens it in full screen, as the third level in the hierarchy.

Best practice

Include a Back button in an action barat the bottom of the screen so that users can navigate the hierarchy.

Tab and drill-down

Allows you to combine the two approaches. Use tabs only at the first level of an app, then let users drill down into the content.

Example

A music app can have tabs for different genres. Users can tap a playlist to see a list of songs.

Custom

Make sure that a custom approach provides a better experience than the approaches listed above. You should test the model thoroughly and refine it so that it’s easy for users to learn.

Example

In a map, all information (such as points of interest and directions) appears directly on the map.

Back behavior

If your application uses drill-down navigation, the content is structured in a hierarchy. Back behavior lets users move back easily through the hierarchy.

When users move back in a BlackBerry app, the movement is hierarchical. This means that moving back takes users to the previous level in the app hierarchy. It doesn’t necessarily take them back through each screen that they viewed earlier in the app.

Use when

You create the second or deeper levels in an app hierarchy. Make sure the Back button appears in the far left position in an action bar.

The Back button can contain an icon and the title of the screen or tab that users would navigate back to. If the context is clear, you can use the title “Back” instead.

Examples

Users can move back in three ways:

Tap the Back button

Swipe their finger to the right on the content area

Touch the Back button and drag their finger to the right to peek at the previous level.

Best practices

Don’t put a Back button (or any other button) on the screen as a way for users to close an app. The only way for users to leave an app is by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

In most cases, save automatically when users move back to the previous screen. Read more about saving.

If you combine tabs and drill-downs, make sure that back navigates within one tab only.

Time to share some tips and tricks on OpenGraph.

Step by step tutorial:

Step 1: Create a Facebook app

Step 2: Authenticate users with the Login Button plugin

Step 3: Define Objects, Actions and Aggregations through the App Dashboard

Step 4: Publish Actions for your users

Step 5: Add Social Plugins to your app

Step 6: Submit Your Actions for approval

Step 1: Create a Facebook App

To create a Facebook app, go to the App Dashboard, click the ‘Create New App’ button. In the resulting popup box, enter your app name and an optional namespace (e.g., “mycompanyappname”) to get started. The namespace must be unique compared to all apps on Facebook.

Once you have entered the initial information you will land on the Basic Settings page. Let’s examine some of the functionality on this page.

Basic Info: This is where you can set your app’s name, namespace, and your contact email address.

Display Name. This is the name that will appear in Login Dialog boxes as well as Open Graph actions.

Namespace. Your app namespace. This should be unique to your app and will be used to manage your objects and actions.

Contact Email. Enter your email address here.

App Domains. This is the domain on which your app will be deployed. For example, “mycompany.com”.

App Category. Select a category for your app that best represents what your app is and does. Note: If you haven’t selected a category for your app, we will classify it for you. If your app doesn’t fit logically into the category you’ve chosen, we may reclassify it in a more accurate category.

Sandbox Mode. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will keep this Disabled.

Select how your app integrates with Facebook:

Select the ‘Website with Facebook Login’ choice (for the tutorial, we will demonstrate a website integration with Open Graph). A green checkbox should appear to the left and a Site URL field should appear.

Enter a Site URL (your website location). The domain should match the App Domains entry in the Basic Infosection

Step 2: Authenticate Users

In order to publish Open Graph Actions, your app needs to prompt users for the
publish_actions
permission. You can use the Login Button plugin and set the ‘scope’ parameter to prompt for this permission.

Here is some code, using the JavaScript SDK, to help you get started right away.

Simply copy and paste the following code into a new HTML file and save (or publish) it to your chosen web server. Remember to replace
[YOUR_APP_ID]
with your own app information.

OG Tutorial App

  <fb:login-button show-faces="true" width="200" max-rows="1" scope="publish_actions"> </fb:login-button>
Stuffed Cookies

Step 3: Define Objects, Actions and Aggregations

The Open Graph tab of the App Dashboard shows the “Getting Started” subtab of the tool:

Define Object Types and Action Types

The Getting Started wizard walks you through the process of defining your initial object type and action type.

Click the ‘Open Graph’ tab under your app settings.

Click the ‘Getting Started’ subtab.

In this tutorial, you will set up your app so that users will be able to Cook a Recipe. In order to do so, we will define an action (or verb) type called Cook and define an object (or noun) type called Recipe.

Enter cook in the verb field and recipe in the noun field.

Then, click the ‘Get Started’ button.

The next step in the wizard allows you to further define your custom action type, Cook, with custom properties and sample data. We will use the default configuration in this tutorial, so click on the Save Changes and Next button.

Now, you are able to further define your custom object type, Recipe, with custom properties and sample data. We will again use the default configuration in this tutorial, so click on the Save Changes and Next button.

Define an Aggregation

Finally, after defining both an initial custom action type and custom object type, you are now able to define an aggregation.

When a user interacts with your app in a meaningful way, we will also highlight these actions on the user’s Timeline with an aggregation.

Let’s create an aggregation to highlight a list of recipes that were cooked:

Data to Display - We’re looking for a list of cook actions, so enter Cook here.

Layout Style - Select List

Sort By - Select Most Recent

Aggregation Title - Enter a user-friendly title for the aggregation, such as “Recently Cooked Recipes”

Caption Lines - You can reference both properties of the object and action here. Let’s leave this blank for now for this tutorial, but feel free to read about more info on how to use captions.

Timeline Preview - Preview of how your aggregation will appear in a user’s Timeline.

Click the Save and Finish button to save all your changes and return to the Open Graph dashboard. You are now done with defining your initial object types, action types and aggregations. The Dashboard view of your Open Graph app settings will show a summary of these configurations.

The next section will walk you through on how to get your app to publish its first Open Graph action and display an aggregation on a user’s Timeline.

Step 4: Publish Actions

Before being able to publish an Open Graph action for a user and having define its corresponding connected object type inStep 3, you will now need to create a publicly accessible web page that represents this object using Open Graph metatags. Once this object page is created, you can use the Graph API to publish an action.

Create an Object Page

The Open Graph Dashboard page has a ‘Get Code’ link next to Recipe object type. This contains the Open Graph meta tags describing the object that you’ll need to include on your web page.

Copy and paste this code snippet into a web page. Make sure to host your web page in a location where Facebook will be able to access it via HTTP GET.

Use the Debugger Tool to verify your meta tags are set up correctly by inputting your object web page URL. Resolve any warnings generated.

Note the object page URL because you will be using it to publish the related action

Here is an object page with the

tags added. Remember to replace
[YOUR_APP_NAMESPACE]
and
[YOUR_APP_ID]
with your own app information.

OG Tutorial App

Stuffed Cookies

Publish an Action

Publishing an action connects the user to the object you created. The Open Graph Dashboard page has a ‘Get Code’ link next to your action. This contains
curl
code snippets that you can copy into terminal and run directly.

Publishing an action involves making an HTTP POST to the
me/[app_namespace]:[action_type]
Graph API endpoint with the following parameters:

[object_type]
: a link to a web page representing an object.

access_token
: a valid user access_token with
publish_actions
permissions.

For example, sending a POST to:

POST https://graph.facebook.com/me/[YOUR_APP_NAMESPACE]:cook
         ?recipe=OBJECT_URL&access_token=ACCESS_TOKEN

This will publish a
Cook
action for the
Recipe
corresponding to the provided
OBJECT_URL
. Replace
OBJECT_URL
with your object web page URL.

Here is the updated sample app with the Cook action creation enabled when clicking the “Cook” button:

OG Tutorial App

Stuffed Cookies

Now click the “Cook” button! If the publish to Open Graph is successful, an
id
will be returned that represents the newly published action. Congratulations! You have now published an action and completed the basic steps in getting your Open Graph app up and running.

In order to view an aggregation on a user’s Timeline, your app will need to publish a few more actions to Open Graph on behalf of the user. Define a few more objects through the earlier steps and publish a few more actions. Your app will need to publish actions for at least 5 times before an aggregation is surfaced on a user’s Timeline.

Go to Timeline on Facebook to view the aggregation of your app:

Previewing Stories from Published Actions

You can preview News Feed stories created when publishing actions by going to
https://www.facebook.com/USER_ID/activity/STORY_ID
, where
USER_ID
is the user’s Facebook ID or username, and
STORY_ID
is the
action-instance-id
as described below. The user must have appropriate permissions in order to see the preview.

Publishing Past Actions

Open Graph also provides the ability to publish a user’s past actions and objects. Please refer to our developer documentation on Publishing Past Actions.

Step 5: Add Social Plugins

Add one or more Social Plugins that are available for Open Graph apps.

On your object web page, you can add any of these plugins to highlight Open Graph actions. For the purposes of this tutorial, let’s add the new Activity Plugin.

Activity

The Activity Plugin has been updated to highlight the Open Graph actions published by an app.

To add an Activity Plugin, include the following code on your web page:

<fb:activity actions="[YOUR_APP_NAMESPACE]:ACTION-TYPE"/></fb:activity>

Here is the entire code of the tutorial that includes publishing an Open Graph action and rendering the Activity Plugin, all within a single page:

OG Tutorial App

Stuffed Cookies

   <fb:activity actions="[YOUR_APP_NAMESPACE]:cook"></fb:activity>

Step 6: Submit Your Actions For Approval

We are introducing a lightweight review and approval process before your app can publish Open Graph actions to all users.

Open Graph activities will be immediately visible to the administrators, developers and testers of your app. This allows you to do end-to-end testing of your Open Graph integration. Once that is complete, submit the Open Graph actions of your app via the App Dashboard for review and approval.

After we have verified that the use of Open Graph actions by your app meets our criteria, we will approve your app to publish Open Graph actions to all Facebook users. Please note that we are not approving your app, only how Open Graph actions are being published by your app.

Read more about the approval process for further details.

Debug and Troubleshoot

Here are some helpful tips when troubleshooting issues in publishing Open Graph objects or actions by your app:

How to verify your Objects are in the Open Graph

Use the Object Debugger to validate your objects to make sure you have included the needed meta tags.

How to verify your Actions are published to the Open Graph

Make sure your objects are properly defined with the Object Debugger

Make sure you are using the right namespace for your API calls. Remember that an application namespace cannot be modified once set.

Make sure you have removed the
&expires
token from your
access_token
before making the Graph API call

Make sure you are getting an
id
returned from the Graph API POST call

Why am I getting “This method must be called with an app access_token” error when publishing an action?

Uncheck the “Require app access token to write” checkbox on the configuration page (hidden under the Advanced section) for your Open Graph action type in the App Dashboard.

Next Steps

Download the code presented in this tutorial from our Open Graph Samples

HTML5 is a new technology that allows developers to build rich web-based apps that run on any device via a standard web browser.

Many think it will save the web, rendering native platform-dependent apps obsolete.

So, which will win? Native apps or HTML5?

A recent report from BI Intelligence explains why we think HTML5 will win out, and what an HTML future will look like for consumers, developers, and brands

Here’s why the Apps-vs-HTML5 debate matters:

Distribution: Native apps are distributed through app stores and markets controlled by the owners of the platforms. HTML5 is distributed through the rules of the open web: the link economy.

Monetization: Native apps come with one-click purchase options built into mobile platforms. HTML5 apps will tend to be monetized more through advertising, because payments will be less user-friendly.

Platform power and network effects: Developers have to conform with Apple’s rules. Apple’s market share, meanwhile, creates network effects and lock-in. If and when developers can build excellent iPhone and iPad functionality on the web using HTML5, developers can cut Apple out of the loop. This will reduce the network effects of Apple’s platform.

Functionality: Right now, native apps can do a lot more than HTML5 apps. HTML5 apps will get better, but not as fast as some HTML5 advocates think.

NIEUW:EEN APP( Applicatie) MET EEN COMPLETE ADEMTHERAPIE!

http://www.in-balanz.nl/klachtenlijst/
